First Impressions of “The Truth About Abs“
Lots of content
The first time I saw the sales page, I was a bit skeptical. It looked pretty much like every “burn fat fast” or “build muscle” books out there – a little too much hype and eye-candy.
My first issue with the book is that it’s ridiculously huge (i.e. long and comprehensive). However, it’s definitely motivating and got me very jazzed up for learning how to get abs quickly, but didn’t realize that I’d have to read such a lot to get there! Sheesh…
Still, I feel that I’ve got my money’s worth and it’s already clear to see that the author Mike Geary is not only very knowledgeable about getting abs and general fitness and nutrition, but he’s put a lot of time and effort into creating this guide.
The inspirational introduction made it clear that the Truth About Abs is equally suitable for men and women alike. I kind of liked the fact that he points out “You do not need to do all of these exercises and use all of the equipment mentioned in order to get the results that you desire.”
That’s good to know, because I wanted the body but never had the time! Plus, I am not a big gym rat like everyone else, so I wanted to know that I could use this to suit my personal lifestyle and preferences.
As I begin to get into the meat of the guide, I can tell that the real truth about this system is actually that you will need some time and discipline, which is to be expected. So if you read anywhere else that you can get abs overnight then I’d love to see how.
The underlying message here is that the Truth About Abs is set out to dispel the myths about weight loss and help you to eat right and exercise in a way that suits your needs. It’s not so much about becoming a world class body builder, but instead getting lean body mass so that your abs show through naturally. You won’t get six pack abs until you lose the fat that is covering your abs! It’s only then, after you’ve lost the fat, that you may decide if you want to work on the muscle building from there on out.
This is probably why 60% of buyers of Truth About Abs are women… because there is a stronger emphasis on weight loss as opposed to bulking yourself out. Makes sense really, as we all have abs… it’s just the fat that covers them which is the problem… so if we can get rid of that flab then we’re going to automatically see a toned stomach as a result.
Does it Work?
Encouraging words…
There’s quite a lot of material getting you prepped up before you actually get into specifics, and even when you think you’re about to get into the actual core, you’re hit with a pre-motivational section.
I actually the motivational section is very well done. It really puts you in the right frame of mind for getting the most of of this course. Again, it’s clear just from reading this that Mike Geary is determined for you to make this work for you, by making sure you take action and stick to this system.
I like the fact that he points out “There’s no such thing a poor genetics, no such thing as no time…” This was the much needed prep talk that I was looking for, so let’s move on…
Forget what you thought about food
We immediately move onto diets and nutrition. Mike points out the importance of this section being just as important as any exercise. I totally agree before even trying out the system. After all, what good is exercise if we eat 8000 calories per day?
This section is intense. You’d be amazed at how much there is to discover about eating right, but Mike lays out the hard facts about the food industry and what you’ve been led to believe about insulin, carbs, fats, sugars, whole grain and so much more.
I have been totally revamping my own food purchases, starting with the grocery shopping, but more importantly, what I eat (and drink) when I go out!
What amazed me was the part about eating the right fats to make you thinner! I’m not sure if you’ve heard of such things before, but I soon realized how little I knew about nutrition.
Mike goes into greater detail about fad diets and why they not only don’t work (why do you think there are so many released each year?) but why they are essential damaging to your health. Personally, I have tried the Atkins diet and a low carb diet before and ended up with a whole range of side effects such as poor sleeping habits, mood swings, low concentration and all kinds of aches and pains.
My advice is, whatever you decide to do please just avoid the temptation of fad diets… they’re just not worth it!
Overall, the diet and nutrition section is more than adequate to finally resolve the myths about eating right, but thankfully doesn’t come in the form of some strict regime or precise plan. It literally re-educates you on food and nutrition, so that you can shop more wisely and eat more sensibly without having to munch on rabbit food or lentils.
A biology lesson
Once you’ve got through the food nutrition section (might take a while, but worth it considering that it’s the building block to weight loss), you’re entered into a biology lesson… This section is all about how abs are developed.
To me, this section is very in-depth. I actually found it extremely interesting (I was a big fan of biology in high school and in college), others may feel a bit bored reading through this. There is also some important info on body positioning.
As you move onto new chapters, Mike explains why certain abs routines don’t work, along with recommended exercises. This is where it starts to get meaty and the program really starts to kick in.
Although there’s been a lot of reading up until now, Mike does a good job of laying the info out in a way that makes sense and flows in the order that you must learn it in. As we approach the end of chapter 5 we’re starting to get actual lists of good and bad abdominal exercises, along with real life pics of Mike performing them.
These are really clear and are accompanied by simple instructions so that you know what you’re doing.
I started these ab exercise at home just to try them out in the privacy of my own home (before I make a fool of myself at the gym). There was one that I couldn’t do properly in my house which was one of the leg raises because you need to have a pull up bar, which I don’t have.
I found all of the other abs exercises to be really easy to do and didn’t need any fancy equipment to do them. However, although I could definitely feel the effect these were having at the time, I couldn’t say the exercises alone were anything you’ve not seen or heard of before.
The workout routines
With that in mind, after you’ve read through the pics and instructions you’re hit with the workout routines that Mike recommends which incorporate these exercises.
It’s good that he provides various levels, as I was ready to move on from Level 2 which I started out on almost immediately (but that’s because I am impatient lol).
I’d say that these workout routines are pretty easy going at the early levels, but you soon start to feel the intensity as you progress. Just don’t rush it like I did. They are not exactly groundbreaking workout routines, but still… it’s obvious that there’s so much more to a lean and toned body than what goes on at the gym, as you’ll see for yourself when you read this guide.
Metabolism and calorie burning busted wide open!
Mike then has a section on metabolic training and why we see so many people slogging away on treadmills and other cardio exercise equipment and complaining about getting no results.
This part of the guide was a real eye opener for me personally, as I am sure it will be for others too. In reality, the answers are a little more complicated than you’d like to think. Be prepared to get a complex lesson before you’re shown the kind of exercises that you should be doing.
On a side note, one thing I did notice about Mike’s book is that you’ll get a serious chunk of the theory and education upfront. What I liked is that all of these sections of learning are followed by specific routines that you can literally just pick up and run with immediately.
So, although you might be put off by the serious amount of content, if you’re in a rush you can skim over some of this stuff and get right into the actual practicalities that he lays out at the end of each section.
An awesome round up
If you’ve stuck in there and reached chapter 11, then you’ll be pleasantly rewarded with the killer K.O of getting a lean body and toned abs. Mike sums up everything you’ve learned from attitude to nutrition, cardio to weights, leaving you with a really powerful system that is summarized in chapter 11.
Mike uses bullet points to sum up all of the technical stuff so that you “get it” right away and can reference it easily. (I recommend printing out this section).
At this point, Mike unleashes more advanced full body workouts designed to shed fat from your entire core. I’ve seen most of these exercises in magazines. However, when you approach them in the way Mike teaches you, things start to take off all on their own and you’ll see a difference from day one.
Why? Because not only are you able to follow one of the most in-depth guides to working out and eating right, but there is no fluff or hype — just solid, real world advice from a guy who clearly knows what he is talking about.
Finally, you’ve got some additional tips and an FAQ section which is very useful, especially the part about eating after 7 p.m., and what you can/should eat to avoid piling on the pounds.
Of course, no good product is without its fair share of real life customer testimonials. There’s an overwhelming amount of testimonials on the Truth About Abs, which certainly does remove a lot of the usual skepticism about this program.
Disadvantages
One of the things I think put me off a little at first was the sheer volume of information that I was confronted with after downloading the material. I was anxious to get started right away.
I am sure there will be others who feel the same way. Although, on the positive side, it’s simply good value for money and you can just take the voluminous content in stride as Mike “over-delivering.” Just don’t forget to take action!
I also thought that a lot of the exercises were nothing new or special, many of them I had seen before in magazines.
However, I also must say that it’s more to do with how these exercises are combined into a specific routine and nutritional plan, so I am not sure it it’s fair to slate the guide on that basis alone.
Apart from these points, the only other thing I would say is that it would have better to have this information presented in either an audio format or video. This is just my personal preference, but I do think that it would make for better learning, especially if you’re not a big fan of reading.
In fact, I would advise you to print off the main manual right away, instead of trying to read it all from your computer screen.
Advantages
I would have to say that the nutritional guidance is more than just an eye opener – it’s more like a life changer. I know that sounds far fetched and hypey, but when you see the truth about what you should and shouldn’t feed your body, the whole mystery about why it’s so hard to lose weight and keep it off becomes a lot more clear.
The value for money here is tremendous, particularly considering all the bonus material you receive. In fact, if you follow the guide properly and make a conscious effort to see it through for long enough, you’ll likely not even need the bonus guides.
I’m really happy with the results so far after just a few weeks. I can feel changes mentally more than anything, but indeed the scales are beginning to drop bit by bit (I’ve lost about 7lbs so far and I didn’t even hit the gym yet!) and that’s an awesome feeling.
I think that I will hit my goals of being proud to strut at my high school reunion in a few weeks if I follow Mike’s advice of goal setting and motivation. I was not obese when I started this program, but a bit overweight especially in the belly, and always feeling low and tired, so the goal of losing the belly fat is far more important than ever before.
Who Will Benefit?
I think this product is suited to people with more drive than the people who only hit the gym after Christmas. I think you need to have a genuine desire to get fit, lose weight and get a six pack.
Although the exercises are clearly aimed at getting a six pack, you need to realize that essentially this guide is all about losing weight and sustaining muscle mass (instead of losing muscle like some fad diets will make you do).
If you hate reading to any extent, then you may want to steer clear of this product. Although I may be a bit harsh for saying that, I honestly feel that if you’re not prepared to learn the truth through reading a fair bit of info, then this guide is not for you.
But having said that, I’ve seen my fair share of videos on abs and weight loss and none of them cover the info that Mike Geary does in his book The Truth About Abs. So you’ve got to make that decision – Do you avoid it because you don’t like reading or do you just bite the bullet and learn some solid, groundbreaking info on weight loss?
For those willing to apply themselves and give themselves a chance to change their lives, then this guide is truly the most comprehensive and solid advice on getting fit, with a lean and toned body all round.
I think this guide could have simply been called “The Truth About Weight Loss”, because essentially that’s what you’ll discover. Of course, once you start losing the weight while maintaining your energy and blood sugar levels, I have no doubt that you’ll feel great mentally and you’ll start to see those abs pushing through.
Conclusion
The Truth About Abs is not for people who don’t like to read. Do not buy this guide if you’re not prepared to change your old ways and actually sit down first and learn the, well, truth.
The fact is, this guide is a beast Eand contains so much content that you could spend days reading it before even getting started. Even from the very first chapter where Mike explains the importance of mindset, you will learn some fundamental lessons that will allow you to finally start shifting excess fat and toning up. You’re also going to learn things that will stay with you for life.
In other words, this isn’t just some quick fix book on “working out.” This program may be a total reversal of what you thought you knew about eating right (not dieting or eating less), along with one of the most comprehensive plans to working out the right way, not the hard way.
I’ve been working through some of the routines and following Mike’s advice on nutrition as much as I can for a few weeks now.
I have to admit that it’s hard to change your ways in a snap, which probably suggests why Mike really drives home the importance of your mindset right from day one, before you even get started.
My weight is dropping slowly, but more to the point I actually feel more energized and confident. I can’t possibly see how you would fail to get a six pack abs (or at the very least a lean body) while using this system.
I admit that I probably won’t apply everything Mike teaches, because I simply don’t like going down the gym all the time. About 90% of the course I can do from the comfort of my living room.
You might need to invest in a couple of cheapish pieces of equipment if you do decide to do everything at home, such as a pull up bar, a medicine ball and possibly some floor grips.
You certainly don’t need a full home gym to make this work for you, just pick out the stuff that doesn’t require gym equipment and you’ll be fine.
The main benefit I found was the nutrition and general eating advice. I was totally shocked at how we are typically mislead into believing things about food and nutrition that are simply not true. You will probably lose a lot of weight just from following this advice alone… without exercising!
